GM4JPI

Hello Friend,

Welcome to my website. My name is Pete and I'm located on the Shetland Isles the most northerly place in the UK. We are at 60° north which is on the same latitude as Anchorage, Oslo and St Petersburg.

This is a great QTH for DX'ing the world! With an almost zero noise level and no BCI, loads of space for aerials and the combination of the North Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, makes for a super take-off for all HF work.

I don't QSL or contest any longer, but if you'd like to email me I'd be happy to confirm our contact.

Biography

Ex-navy. Full licence since 1980. Was inactive for many years, but now semi-retired have more time on my hands.

I am located 28km from the capital of Lerwick on the far south west side of Shetland and just 300 metres from the Atlantic Ocean.

I enjoy working DX on 80m, 40m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m & 6m.

Working on a Yaesu FT-950, MD-200A8X mike, Acom 1010 amplifier & Palstar AT1KP ATU.

I have a variety of antennas which include a homebrew Carolina Windom orientated at 30/210 degrees and just 7 metres off the ground, an 80m inverted V antenna and a vertical antenna for 20m/17m - both some 10 metres high.

I dare not erect antennas any higher due to the extremely high winds in Shetland which regularly attain gusts of force 12. Shetland holds the unofficial British record for wind speed, which in 1962 was recorded at 177 mph (285 km/h).

Other hobbies include trout & sea fishing.
